Variety Of Events Lined Up For Easter Holidays

 

It’s set to be a fun-filled Easter school holidays for children in Sandwell – with staff at museums, libraries and Sandwell Valley drawing up a wide variety of activities for local families.
These include a range of Easter-themed events, family fun days, craft sessions and other holiday fun days including seed sowings for the garden, teddy bears’ picnics and scores of library events.

Jane Hanney, museums manager, said the Easter school holidays were always a busy time at Sandwell’s museums as they open for the 2018 season of activities. She said: “We really look forward to opening to the general public again and to launching our new displays and 2018 programme of events and activities for all ages.”


At Sandwell libraries, check out children’s activities from craft sessions and storytelling to magic shows, animal encounters and more. Plus, there are TechPlay sessions at the six main town libraries. Robert Hazel, community library manager, said: “Our libraries have come up with a string of exciting events to attract people to them.”


Museums activities kick-off over the Easter weekend, with Easter Sunday (1 April) trails and crafts at the Oak House in West Bromwich and at Haden Hill House Museum in Cradley Heath.

On Easter Monday (2 April) there will be an Easter Egg Roll event at Warley Woods, Easter family fun days at the Oak House and Haden Hill House and an Easter egg hunt at Manor House, West Bromwich.

From 3-5 April, there will be a number of Springtime in the Garden events at Oak House, with RSPB bird experts coming along on 3 April and craft sessions on 4 and 5 April. A Wild Week runs at Oak House from 10-12 April.

Springtime activities and crafts, quizzes and trails run at Haden Hill House on 5, 6, 12 and 13 April.

At the Manor House in West Bromwich there are interesting events, including seed sowing on 5 April and a teddy bear’s picnic on 11 April. There will also be a Manor House Through Time session on 15 April, giving people the chance for a self-guided tour to explore the old beams and 13th century Great Hall and take in fascinating stories from its history.

Wednesbury Museum and Art Gallery hosts crafts and trails on 4 and 11 April, an Animal Day on 5 April, and a Detective Week on 12 April.

At Sandwell Valley Country Park, families can enjoy play facilities, walking, sports and much more. During the Easter school holidays there are craft activities taking place in the farmyard marquee at Sandwell Park Farm, along with an Easter Egg hunt and a chance to meet the animals. Sandwell Valley’s Jo Miskin said: “Young people love to see the animals up close and will also have the chance to see goat milking demonstrations and meet the rabbits and the lambs.” Sandwell Park Farm is open daily from 10am until 4.30pm with last admissions at 4pm. Tree climbing will be available on 8 and 9 April and butter making sessions on 7 April.
