SHAPE Our Future 2015
The annual child’s voice conference took place on Monday 30th November at Bethel Convention Centre in Oldbury. Nearly 100 children and young people attended from Primary, Secondary schools and Pupil referral units for a daytime conference.
The day was filled with interactive workshops led by experienced facilitators on each of the following topics:
- Staying Safe – Facilitated by Loudmouth focusing on Anti Bullying and online safety through a drama production “Bully 4U”
- Being Healthy – Facilitated by Public Health incorporating physical activity, healthy eating and emotional health and wellbeing
- Enjoying & Achieving – Facilitated by Play Services and Creative Academies involving a variety of creative activities such as film making, graffiti art, creative writing and model making focusing on what Sandwell means to you
- Making a Positive Contribution – All children and young people will be providing views and opinions throughout the day
- Economic Wellbeing – Facilitated by Generation England promoting enterprise and generating ideas for improvements
As well as workshops there was an interactive marketplace showcasing what services Sandwell has to offer for children and young people.
The day raised lots of awareness on the topics above as well as capturing the views of children and young people who attended.
As well as a daytime conference, we listened to young people who requested an evening event be held for them. 50 young people over 16 attended from across the Borough including members of Youth Parliament, Looked After Children’s Board and Youth Clubs.
