Summer Re-opened

Here’s a round up of activities and programmes available to young people during the summer.

The Youth Service will also be delivering Holiday Activity & Food programmes in key parks across the 6 towns.

Join us for a boredom busting summer of fun!

Unplug your devices and get outdoors this summer to try a host of fun and exciting activities.  From a skating competition (including learning new skills and tricks), music, magic and circus skills, graffiti art, film making to climbing and sports – we’ve got it all coming to a park near you! The following parks will be hosting this programme:

Dartmouth Park, West Bromwich – 26th– 29th July

Brunswick Park, Wednesbury – 2nd – 5th August

Lightwood Park, Smethwick – 9th-12th August

Britannia Park, Rowley Regis – 16th – 19th August

Victoria Park, Tipton – 23rd -26th August

Tividale Park, Oldbury – 23rd-26th August

Youth Services re-opened

Sandwell Youth Service will also be re-opening some of its youth clubs from this week at the following locations:

Tanhouse Youth Club (Re-opening 6th July)

Tanhouse Community Centre, Hamstead Road, Great Barr, B43 5EL

Thursday 6pm – 8pm

Lodge Road Youth Club (Re-opening 8th July)

Lodge Road Community Centre, Lodge Road, West Bromwich, B70 8PJ

Thursday 6pm – 8pm

Windmill Youth Club (Re-opening 13th July)

Windmill Community Centre, Messenger Road, Smethwick, B66 3DX

Tuesday 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Thursday 6:30pm – 8:30pm

Young people will need to pre-book their place, as we will only be able to accept limited numbers due to social distancing and capacity within the clubs.  Please contact youngpeople_services@sandwell.gov.uk to book your place and make sure you give your name and the club you wish to attend.

In addition, detached youth teams will continue to operate at key locations throughout the summer.  Details of where and when the teams will be out each week can be found at https://www.justyouth.org.uk/events/

SHAPE Summer Fest Re-imagined

SHAPE Summer Fest Reimagined took place on Saturday 10 July  and this year it was virtual!

You can now select different viewing channels from sports, arts and crafts, nature, health, performing arts, cooking, mental health and wellbeing and careers.

Activities range from all ages and include football training, anxiety workshops, illustration with rootz 0121 and much more. There is also a careers showcase in the afternoon for 16 – 25 year olds.

Adventurous Activity Days at Malthouse Stables

Malthouse Stables will be offering adventurous activity days which will include mountain biking and canoeing as part of the Holiday Activity & Food programme which have limited spaces available and will need to be pre-booked.

Targeted Young Women’s Programme

We will also have targeted provision for young women available throughout the summer.  Young women will need to be referred to this programme and will need to meet our Enhanced Youth Support provision criteria.

Holiday Activities & Food Fund

In addition to the Shape Summer Fest and Youth Service offer, further activities and programmes are available through the Holiday activities and food programme.

The Department for Education’s Holiday Activities and Food Programme has provided funding for councils to deliver free fun activities linked to a food offer for children and young people who are eligible for free school meals during the summer holidays. Children and young people can be registered for the programme using this link:

Black Country Rainbow Hour Booklet

The Rainbow Booklet Summer 2021 edition provides a range of wellbeing and physical activities for children and their families.

All activities within the Rainbow Booklet follow the concept of the 3C’s and are deliverable whilst following national guidance around social distancing:

  • Allows Communication (helps with healing and coping).
  • Consistently applied as young people need routine and consistency.
  • A range of activities that give pupils a sense of Control which prevents them from being consumed by emotional reactions.

The resource:

  • Can be used electronically or printed to send home for those without computer access
  • Will be updated bi-weekly with new activities.
  • Provide further links to additional material
  • Feature enabling it to be downloaded into multiple languages for EAL pupils

A new edition of the book will be released every half term containing new activities for each of the 7 strands. Each Rainbow book will have activities suitable for Early Years right the way through to pupils in Year 13.
