Sandwell Youth People’s Service (SYPS) work’s with young people aged between 11 and 19 and up to 25 years old with additional needs.
SYPS is committed to providing resourceful, experienced and professional youth workers who are able to build up positive relationships with young people through their voluntary participation in a range of activities. Youth workers will listen to and work with young people in a non-judgmental way.
We provide a range of youth provisions across the 6 towns of Sandwell including 7 open access youth clubs, 2 detached teams in each town, Enhanced Youth Support which includes targeted one to one and small group work support, a borough wide young women’s/ young men’s groups, a young women’s group in Tipton & Oldbury and a youth club for young people with additional needs at the Meadow’s School. The 2 detached teams in each town operate in ASB hot spots as determined through the local SCLOG in each town.
In addition we have 2 youth buses (a double decker bus providing a mobile youth provision and a single decker which is equipped with media equipment to offer alternative education and life skills programmes). We also support young people to influence and shape services, and enable them to get involved in decision making processes through the SHAPE programme, SHAPE Youth Forum, Sandwell Youth Parliament, the West Midlands Police & Crime Commissioner’s Youth Commission, through facilitating national Youth Takeover Day and through other youth consultations and conferences. We also support young people to access volunteering and work experience opportunities to help them to develop themselves and enter the world of work.
